Self-hosted project management, open source

Bemmoly is a work platform you run on your own server: issues, boards, sprints and docs for the whole company in one app, under the MIT license, with no per-seat fees. It is built in the open, one release at a time.

Bemmoly 0.3.0 has the foundation and the Work module: projects, issues, boards, the backlog and sprints. Docs arrive in 0.3 and AI in 0.4. Each badge below says where a part stands.

Why run it yourself

  • Your data stays yours. Every issue, page and file lives in your Postgres and your folders, behind your login and under your backups. The on-premise page explains what is stored where.
  • No per-seat bill. Inviting the whole company costs nothing more. A 2 vCPU, 4 GB VM is enough for about 200 people.
  • Updates when you say so. Read the release notes, update with one click, and roll back for seven days if something is wrong.
  • One thing to run. One application image and one Postgres: no Redis, no search cluster, no message broker.

How it runs

One command on a fresh Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora or Amazon Linux VM installs Docker, Postgres 18, Caddy for automatic HTTPS, a nightly backup and the updater, then prints the address. The install guide walks through it, the Docker Compose guide covers running the same files yourself, and self-hosting lists every other path, from your own Postgres to servers without internet access.

Questions

Is Bemmoly free?
Yes. Bemmoly is open source under the MIT license, with no seat limits and no features held back. You pay only for the server it runs on.
Can I manage projects in it today?
Yes. Since the 0.2 release the Work module has projects, issues, workflows, Kanban and Scrum boards, the backlog and sprints; an admin turns it on in Settings › Modules. Docs arrive in 0.3 and AI in 0.4. The current release is 0.3.0.
What does it need to run?
A Linux VM with 2 vCPU and 4 GB of memory runs it for about 200 people. The installer sets up Docker, Postgres 18, HTTPS, backups and updates; there is no Redis, search cluster or message broker to run.
Where is my data kept?
In the Postgres database and the /var/bemmoly folder on your own server, or in an S3-compatible bucket you choose for files and backups. Nothing is sent to the people who make Bemmoly, and checking for updates is off until an admin turns it on.
Do I have to use AI?
No. AI arrives in 0.4 and works with the provider you connect, a model on your own network, or none at all. Nothing leaves the server for an AI provider until you connect one.

Run it on your own server

On a fresh Linux VM with a domain pointing at it, one command installs Docker, Postgres, automatic HTTPS, nightly backups and the updater, then prints the address to open.
